What is a cranberry?

A cranberry is a small, firm, bright red berry that's very tart. It's rarely eaten raw: most cranberries are cooked into sauce, pressed into juice or dried. Each berry holds tiny pockets of air inside, which is why cranberries float.

Where it comes from

Cranberries grow on low vines in sandy bogs in the northern United States and Canada.

At harvest, farmers flood the bogs and the floating berries are gathered from the water.
